An excerpt from
"You Are Not Alone"
from our Spring 2008 Newsletter

He is outgoing with a fabulous sense of humor and enjoys getting the children around him laughing, but tragedy has brought him to an orphanage.  When he was younger, his dad died. He may have
been sick for some time. There was never enough to eat.  His mother remarried, left Patatoukou and left him with his grandma.  Then his grandma also died.

The sadness seemed like it would never end, so he pushed it deep down in his heart so everyone else would see his jokes and smiles.

Lately everyone is getting more and more excited about visitors coming. He heard they will bring presents. Presents are good. It seems like chaos when they arrive. At first intimidating-they look and act so different-but they seem nice and they are silly too. One of them says she is his sponsor, his new “mama.”

He is intrigued, but wary. Will this one be his sponsor for a long time? What is she like?  “What does she want from me?” “Does she really care about me?” He doesn’t reach out for hugs, although he can’t help but stay near. What he doesn’t know is what she has been thinking. She has already decided to sponsor him until he is 75 years old! She thinks, “You are stuck with me! You will always have me.”
